JLPT N2 reading practice

N2 reading is written Japanese: formal register, dense noun phrases, and arguments that qualify themselves before they finish. Two questions on one passage is a short, honest check on whether you can follow that at reading speed.

What Mini Reading tests
One authored Japanese text per sample — a short argued opinion, an explanation, a formal notice, or workplace correspondence — and two questions about what it establishes.
At N2 the questions are about intent and structure as much as content: what the writer is arguing for, why they raise a particular point, what follows from what they said. Several options will be consistent with the passage and only one will answer the question asked.

What N2 reading asks of you
N2 expects you to follow Japanese in articles, formal writing, and professional settings. The passages here match that register: longer sentences, heavier kanji, and connectives that carry the logic of the whole paragraph.
Stamina is as much of the challenge as vocabulary. The exam's reading section is long, and the thing that fails first is usually concentration rather than knowledge. Repeating a short passage regularly is how that gets trained without setting aside an hour.
How the sample works
- Press Start reading practice. One active N2 passage is drawn at random, with two of its comprehension questions.
- Read the passage. Furigana is off by default — at N2 the kanji load is part of what is being practised — and Show reading help turns it on for the passage, the questions, and the options.
- Answer the first question. You get an acknowledgement only: no correctness, no correct option, no explanation.
- Answer the second. Both answers are graded on our side and the combined review appears, with the passage still on screen so you can find what made each correct option correct.
- Nothing is stored, and another passage is one click away.
Why short reading practice is useful
At N2 the deciding signal is usually a connective or a qualifier. Those only exist inside a passage, so a sentence-level drill cannot reach them.
N2 passages are dense enough that the two questions frequently share a paragraph. Holding the review back keeps the second question honest.
One passage is short enough to do daily, which builds the concentration a long reading section needs far better than an occasional marathon.
