JLPT N2

Try two N2 grammar questions

Two questions, four options each. You see the correct answer and an explanation as soon as you choose. Nothing is saved.

What this practices

You read a Japanese sentence with a gap and choose which of four grammar patterns belongs there. At N2 the sentences are longer, the vocabulary is heavier, and the distinguishing signal is often a single earlier word.

Many N2 patterns are formal or written-register equivalents of things you already know how to say. Recognizing them is largely about noticing which register the sentence is in.

  • 〜において, 〜にあたって, 〜に際して
  • 〜ざるを得ない, 〜ないわけにはいかない
  • 〜どころか, 〜はもとより, 〜のみならず
  • 〜つつある versus 〜つつも
  • 〜きらいがある, 〜ずにはいられない

What N2 grammar asks of you

N2 expects you to follow Japanese in newspapers, formal writing, and professional settings. Its grammar section is less about comprehension than about precision: several options will parse, and only one carries the right formality and logical relation.

This is also the level where passive familiarity stops being enough. If you have read a pattern many times but never chosen it under pressure, two questions will show that quickly.

How the sample works

  1. Press Start practice. Two N2 grammar questions are drawn at random, usually from two different grammar points.
  2. Read carefully, then choose one of the four options. Furigana is on by default — useful at N2, where the kanji load is real — and can be turned off.
  3. We grade on our side and show the verdict, the correct option, the grammar point, and a short explanation.
  4. After the second question you see your sample result. Nothing is stored, and you can draw a new pair right away.

Why this is a fair N2 check

Register, not just meaning

Explanations name what made the correct pattern right here — often formality or logical relation rather than dictionary meaning.

The deepest catalogue

N2 has the most authored grammar questions of any level in Hibi Mondai, so repeated samples keep surfacing new patterns.

Free, anonymous, ungated

No account, no stored history, and explanations always shown in full.

N2 particle questions focus on compound and formal usage, where the particle carries the logical relation of the whole sentence.
