What this practices
Each question gives you a Japanese sentence with one grammar pattern missing and four candidates. Recognizing the right one means reading the whole sentence for tone and intent, not just the words around the gap.
N3 patterns tend to differ by register, by degree, or by the speaker's attitude — which is why several options often look plausible until you notice what the sentence is actually doing.
- 〜ようだ / 〜らしい / 〜みたい for inference and hearsay
- 〜ばかり, 〜たばかり, 〜てばかり
- 〜わけだ, 〜はずだ, 〜べきだ
- 〜に対して, 〜について, 〜によって
- Passive, causative, and causative-passive forms
What N3 grammar asks of you
N3 sits between everyday Japanese and the language of newspapers and workplaces. The grammar section stops testing whether you know a pattern and starts testing whether you would choose it here, in this sentence, over three others that are also real Japanese.
That is a reading skill as much as a grammar one. Two questions is enough to tell you whether you are reading for nuance yet or still matching keywords.
